David Bryon Cox, of Great Falls, Virginia, died at Reston Hospital Center on Friday, October 24th, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on September 1st, 1959, to the late Truan Elbert Cox and Dora Leona Maples. His death was also preceded by that of his sister, Angela Cox.
David’s life was an accomplished and fruitful one, marked by his constant compassion and unwavering support of those he loved and cared for. His bright soul never dimmed, even as his health declined.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley, and his two daughters, Anna and Hana. He is also survived by his three nephews, including Chris Guerra.
After graduating from Lake Brantley High School, David attended the University of Central Florida, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He had a good start working in Florida Power as a managing director for 12 years. He was a supportive leader/ friend/ colleague. As a power generation expert and a consultant for Accenture, he managed and contributed to many projects all over the world, which delivered technology to help the power plants to run more efficiently. He worked as the North America consulting head for Cognizant during his final years of his career. He received multiple awards in 2022.
His work took him and his family around the world, from South Africa to Australia, to Malaysia, and finally to Virginia, where he chose to settle. He was always a fan of travel and loved to take his family on countless adventures, from scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef to Africa safaris.
He loved family dinners and family movie night. One of his favorite was to share his rock and roll/country music with wife Shirley and daughter Anna even while he was going through chemotherapy for cancer second time and battling other serious illness.
He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and big smile. He was a source of joy and optimism for all who knew him and his presence will be deeply missed by many.
