Douglas H. Sargeant, age 87, of Mechanicsburg, PA, and formerly of Rockville, MD, passed away on August 14, 2025. Born on January 5, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, IA, he was the son of Harry and June Sargeant. He married Karen Gates on June 5, 1962. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 and was awarded his Ph.D. in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin in 1966. He is survived by his daughters Kristi Smith (John) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Kathryn Sargeant (Thomas Chettleburgh) of Ann Arbor, MI, grandsons Christopher and Jeremy Smith and Steven and William Chettleburgh, brother-in-law Richard McDonald, niece Jennifer Gates (Jeffrey Armistead), and nephews Clyde and Laszlo Armistead. He was predeceased by his wife Karen in 2016, his brother Peter Sargeant and his sister, Susan McDonald. A memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
