Evelyn R. Tupa was born in Regent, ND on May 11, 1929 to Joseph F. and Eve M. (Wagendorf) Tupa. She grew up there and graduated from Regent High School. On September 1, 1951 Evelyn married Hylan Murphy and they were blessed with two children.
Hylan worked for the Army Corp of Engineers, which lead them to live in Yankton, SD, Pickstown, SD, Chamberlain, SD and eventually they settled in Fort Pierre. Evelyn was a homemaker. She was very active member of St. John’s Catholic Church where she was a eucharistic minister and a bible study leader. In her spare time Evelyn enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a published crossword puzzle creator.
Grateful for having shared in Evelyn’s life are her children, Michael Murphy of Lincoln, NE and Carol Hageman of Fort Pierre, SD; granddaughter, Jodi (John) Bechard; great-granddaughter, Kaylee; great-grandson, Brecken and one brother, Wilfred Tupa.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son-in-law, Donald Hageman; brother, Leo Tupa and five sisters, Ann Kubousek, Francis Kowalski, Magdalen Gustafson, Irene Wiesnaut and Adaline Vinyard.
