Roger Hess “The Great One”, 81, of Scottsdale, AZ passed away peacefully on August 14th, 2025 with his family by his side. Roger was born on September 15, 1943 in Mount Vernon, OH to Anne and Floyd Hess. He was the eldest of three children and went on to earn a Master’s in Electrical Engineering at THE Ohio State University; thereby sealing his Buckeye roots. He worked in career schools for years prior to owning Tulsa Welding school in partnership and expanding it to Jacksonville, FL. He retired in 2008 and spent his time traveling, going to Ohio State football games, and visiting with his family. He is survived by his wife, Carla, and his younger brother Jack, and was blessed with his two daughters Kelly Anne and Angela, his son Brian, as well as his grandkids Alaina, Eva, and Flynn. Roger was most happy when he was on a boat or with friends and family. He loved THE Ohio State Buckeyes and lived and died as a true Buckeye. He was a hard worker who also loved to play hard! He always thought the best of those around him, including those working for him who strove to live up to these great expectations. He was very successful with all he undertook utilizing his creativity, humor, generosity, and passion for people. Roger would always take time to talk to young people he encountered and would encourage them to pursue their dreams. He was a staunch believer in education. He attended church throughout his life and believed in God. Now we rejoice as he is in heaven! He is attending every home Buckeye game with the best seats on the 50-yard line enjoying a hot bratwurst and a cold one. A celebration of life will be held at Mountainview Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale, AZ on 9/13/25 at 10 am. The family requests Ohio State Buckeye or Aloha wear.
