Norman D. Zahn, affectionately known to many as “Jumbo,” age 88, of Marshfield passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025, at House of the Dove in Marshfield surrounded with love from his family and under the care of Compassus Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 11, 2025 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield with Rev. Todd Mlsna officiating. Following the Mass, military honors will be conducted by his comrades of American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield. Committal services will be held privately by family at a later date.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a time of visitation at the church on Friday from 9 AM until time of service.
Norman was born May 26, 1937, in Prentice, WI, son of the late Orvin and Gladys (Coulter) Zahn. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard beginning in 1958 until his honorable discharge in February of 1963. Jumbo was a semi-truck driver for 50 years logging millions of miles and traveling to all 48 continental states. He was considered a handyman and enjoyed fixing anything and everything from small items to trucks and lawnmowers.
He was blessed in holy matrimony to the former Doris H. Schneider on May 26, 1960, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hewitt, Wisconsin.
As a husband, dad, grandpa and great grandpa, he always had time for his family. Together, they enjoyed learning to water ski, snowmobiling, playing games and cards, and camping; they later bought a cabin on the Big Eau Pleine Flowage, which they owned for over 40 years. They liked to take rides on the pontoon boat which always included music, cocktails and a good brat! Jumbo also enjoyed many trips, including Hawaii, with the love of his life. At 79 years old, he hunted his first and only buck. He recently celebrated his 88th birthday and 65th anniversary. Jumbo was a huge collector of Snoopy memorabilia.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield and never skipped Sunday Mass until the last day of his life. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus for 50 years and a member of the Hewitt Lions Club and was heavily involved in the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield.
He will be forever remembered by his loving wife, Doris; his children, Al (Deb) Zahn, Amy (Randy) Tews, Susan (Bill) Johnson, and Sara (Randy) Spencer; his grandchildren, Samantha, Chase, Leah, Trista, Kayla, Alyssa, Amy, Jenny, Todd and Tyler and his great-grandchildren, Raylee, Taya, Ellie, Collyns, Quinn, Drew, Reid, Lola, Henry, Max, Cora, Graham, Presley, Lily, Ellianna and Baby K along with many other relatives and friends.
Norman found eternal peace alongside his parents, Orvin and Gladys Zahn; his brother and sister-in-law, Gordan and Virjean Zahn and sister and brother-in-law, Ermaline and Donald Zink.
If desired, the family is accepting memorials in Jumbo’s name for a charity yet to be determined.
Arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer. Family and friends are encouraged to visit www.lifetributesfuneralhome.com to share memories and offer condolences.
