Richard Martin

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard T. Martin announces his peaceful passing on September 18, 2025 in Chesapeake, Virginia at the age of 91.

Richard was born on August 2, 1934 in Scioto County, Ohio to Lenward and Elizabeth Cox Martin. A graduate of Rio Grande College and Xavier University, Richard dedicated his life to the field of education. He served as a teacher, guidance counselor, basketball coach and assistant principal.

He married his beloved wife, Kathryn (née Fenton) in 1955, and they welcomed their son, Richard Andrew, in 1960.

Beyond his professional achievements, Richard will be remembered for his deep love of family, sharp wit, and active lifestyle. He enjoyed tennis, golf and fishing in Avon Park, Florida where he and Kathryn retired in 1989.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathryn, brother, Tim, son, Richard Andrew (Karla), and grandchildren, Richard John (Katina) and Seth. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Mathis.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
